My Little Piece of Garden District Heaven...."The Pink House"

Upon moving back home from Nashville, TN last summer (2012) I started the treacherous adventure of finding a lease for my husband and me. I quickly learned how "hot" and in-demand the New Orleans Uptown and Garden District is for both buyers and renters. Now that I have gotten through that experience alive I have a great deal of compassion for any and all that are looking to rent in the area and essentially get forced into the rat race that is the rental market here.

After a couple of months of looking and loosing one rental after another my mom told me through tears that we are simply going to have to drive the grid until we find something. It was not too long of driving the grid that we came across one little "For Rent" sign in front of this beautiful pink home. I thought to myself, "there is no way I can afford that but called the number just in case I had come across a little miracle." It was a touch over our budget but I knew it was do-able and simply too good to pass up!

I signed the lease that day before even fully viewing the entirety of the rental. All I needed was a few looks through the floor to ceiling windows to be convinced that I had found my new home.

Pictured below is the original chandelier in the foyer and on the right, our dog, Molly, on the day we found the place. As you can see we were both quite excited about our new home!

The home shares its' corner with Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, Commander's Palace, and The Garden District Gallery.

Lafayette Cemetery No.1 is pictured below. I caught a beautiful summer sunset over the cemetery from my balcony view and was delighted it was captured so well in the photo below.

Before I move onto all of the other beautiful and historic homes in the area I will focus first for the first few posts on the "pink house" that has brought so much joy, hospitality, and a new enlightened love for the city and culture.

My next post I will focus purely on this home's historic and architectural relevance that I quickly learned of upon my move into the home. To follow the historical coverage of the home I will give you a quick peek at the inside of the home and what I did with the place to make it my own.

Let me know if I can help anyone find their own piece of heaven in our city. You can reach me at 225-803-4838 cell or by email at EmilyGrealtor@gmail.com.
